The power dies. The billing doesn't.
In most countries, “what happens when the connection drops?” is a footnote. In Pakistan it's the question that should decide which POS you buy. A cloud-dependent till freezes at your busiest hour; an offline-first one keeps serving and reconciles later.
- Billing, tax and printing continue from data stored on the device
- KOT/KDS tickets keep reaching the kitchen over the local network
- Every offline transaction queues and syncs automatically on reconnect
What you get with Offline Mode.
Cloud-based, not cloud-dependent
There's a catch buried in the word “cloud”: some systems need a live connection to function at all. Offline-first means the device stands alone through an outage and reconciles afterwards. That difference is architectural, not cosmetic — and it's the capability you're actually buying.
Nothing is lost, nothing double-counted
Sales, orders and stock movements made offline are stored on the device and uploaded the moment the internet returns. Reports and backups catch up on their own — no manual re-entry.
Compliant bills through an outage
If your province requires a fiscal-compliant invoice on every bill, a POS that can't print during a cut means you're either not billing or not billing compliantly. Offline-ready billing keeps you doing both.

hey@bhookly.comCan a restaurant POS really work without internet?
An offline-ready one can — it runs from data stored on the device, keeps billing and sending kitchen orders, and syncs when the connection returns. A cloud-dependent POS cannot function without a live connection.
How do I test a vendor's offline claim before buying?
Make them prove it in the demo. Ask them to disconnect the internet mid-sale and complete a full transaction — ring it up, apply tax, print the bill. Then send an order to the kitchen while still offline, reconnect, and confirm everything synced with correct totals. If a vendor hedges or can only demo it online, that's a cloud-dependent system in cloud-ready language.
Will I lose data if the power goes out during a sale?
With an offline-ready POS, no — transactions are stored on the device and uploaded when connectivity returns.
Does absolutely everything work offline?
No, and any vendor claiming total parity is overselling. Core billing, receipts and KOT/KDS are the offline essentials. Certain steps — card authorisation, or real-time fiscal validation — can still need a live connection on any system. Ask the Bhookly team to spell out the precise behaviour so you know exactly what works during an outage.
