What is 86 (sold out)?

To "86" an item is restaurant slang for marking it sold out and unavailable. When the kitchen runs out of an ingredient, the dish is 86'd so staff stop selling it.

On Bhookly, a manager switches an item off for today. It stays on the till, greyed out, so staff can tell a guest "we're out today", and it shows as out of stock on WhatsApp. Retiring a dish is a separate action: the item disappears from the menu and its sales history is kept.
