Kitchen Display (KDS) · For dhabas and desi restaurants

Kitchen Display System for dhabas and desi restaurants.

Kitchen Display System is one of the features dhabas and desi restaurants lean on most — and in Bhookly it comes built in. Tuned for how Pakistani dhabas and desi restaurants actually run, it's set up in a morning and works offline when the connection drops.

What Kitchen Display System does for your dhaba & desi.

Start with whichever fits today

A single station and a short menu genuinely doesn't need a screen per station — don't pay for complexity you won't use. Add the KDS as you grow, without switching your whole POS.

Where a KDS starts to pay

Two or more stations, or a significant delivery and pickup mix alongside dine-in. That's the point where routing and timing visibility start mattering more than the cost saving on hardware.

Both at once is normal

Many growing Pakistani kitchens settle on a KDS for the main line and keep a KOT printer as a backup for packaging or a cold station.

Built for how dhabas and desi restaurants actually run.

  • High-volume cash handling, late into the night
  • Unreliable internet and load-shedding
  • Simple operations that don't need complex software
  • Tracking what actually sells across a big menu

Is a KDS better than a KOT printer?

Not universally. A KDS is better for kitchens with multiple stations or high order volume; a KOT printer is genuinely sufficient, and cheaper, for a small kitchen with a short menu.

What are the real limits of a KOT printer?

They show up as volume grows: tickets pile up, get misplaced, or are hard to prioritise by how long they've been waiting. There's no automatic timer, no colour warning when an order is running late, and no easy way to route items to different stations without printing multiple copies.

Does a Kitchen Display work if the internet goes down?

On Bhookly, yes — kitchen tickets continue to route locally during an outage and sync once the connection returns. Confirm this specifically with any vendor, as not all KDS setups are offline-first.

Can I use both a KOT printer and a KDS in the same kitchen?

Yes — many restaurants run a KDS for the main line and keep a printer as backup for a packaging station or secondary prep area. Configure it per station.

Does the KDS need its own device?

Any tablet or screen works. You can run unlimited displays on the same restaurant account, and Bhookly includes KDS in the core plan rather than as a separate purchase.
